Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. What is Piip?

Piip is a free cross-platform mobile and web messenger. Our cross-platform smartphone app (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone) allows you to send and receive messages using your mobile Internet service or a WiFi connection. You can switch seamlessly between the platforms (mobile, tablet, desktop, web) and continue your conversations from where you left them off. The app does not generate any additional costs, since it uses the same Internet data plan that you use for sending emails or surfing the web.

  2. How can I register with Piip?

You will be guided through our quick registration process when you first launch the app.

  3. How much extra will this cost me?

Nothing, Piip is completely free! You will only have to send a registration SMS confirming your phone number which will cost a regular SMS price of your mobile provider. Email registration is required in case of installing the app on tablet, desktop and web.

  4. How can I use Piip?

1. Download Piip from your app store or www.piip.com. 2. Launch Piip. 3. Start messaging! Share Piip with your friends on all platforms.

  5. What is the difference between SMS and Piip Messenger?

SMS is the abbreviation for Short Message Service and is a mobile phone operator service for the text messages transfer. Although the SMS service has limited functionality, most of the time you are charged for every SMS you send. Piip, on the other hand, provides a free service with lots of additional features. For example, Piip notifies you when your message has been read. Also, you can smoothly transfer a conversation from your smartphone, for example, to the web, tablet or desktop, without any interruptions. Try it - you'll be impressed!

  6. What is the difference between mobile-only messengers and Piip?

With mobile-only messengers, you can send free messages to other smartphone users only. With Piip Messenger, you can easily switch to your computer or tablet once at home or at the office and seamlessly continue your conversations using your full-sized keyboard. Try it - you'll love it!

  7. Which platforms do you support?

Piip currently runs on all major mobile platforms: iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone. Tablet platforms covered are iPad, with Android and Windows 8 coming soon. Desktop platforms that will be covered soon are OS X, Windows 8, Linux.

  8. Will other platforms be supported in future?

Piip will release versions for further mobile platforms. You can follow our latest development updates on our website as well as on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

  9. In which countries am I able to use Piip?

Worldwide, as long as you have access to the internet(GPRS, EDGE, 3G or WiFi).

10. Do I have to pay roaming charges when abroad?

This depends on your contract with your mobile operator. Piip runs on the same data plan that you use for an email or Internet access. You can always chat for free using a WiFi connection.

11. What do the colored indicators next to the message mean?

The symbols next to your message indicate the transmission status of your message.

12. How does Piip find my friends and contacts?

Piip uses your existing phone book and lists your contacts that have also installed Piip. You do not have to remember contact information or create new contacts. Desktop and tablet clients with email registrations will have "add contact" option.

13. How can my friends and contacts download Piip?

iPhone and Windows Phone users will see the option "Tell a friend" under the Settings tab, which allows you to invite your friends and contacts to also install Piip. Android users are able to invite friends via the standardized Share button. Blackberry users can choose this option in the Contacts tab. You can choose between email and SMS notification. Afterwards you can piip each other ;)

14. Can I block someone from messaging me?

No problem - you can block someone the first time of interaction or later on using the block list feature in the settings.

15. Why does Piip need my phone number?

Piip uses your phone number as your identification. We respect the privacy of you and your friends and will not pass any phone numbers to third parties, unless obliged to do so for legal reasons. You can find further information about our privacy policy in our Terms and Conditions.
